A Fruitful Week =D

Yeah! I've learnt something new this week. May not be new to some though. I've learnt how amazing the Microsoft Office is. I was instructed to prepare two sets of letter for 101 workers. I thought I would have to slowly one by one change the name, worker no., date, etc, for each of the workers. But thanks to the Mail Merge tool, I was saved from the trouble. All I have to do is to prepare a spreadsheet which contains all the info that I need to change in the letter and prepare the template for the lettter, then use the Mail Merge tool. I just have to open the word doc. for the letter, go to Tools--->Letter and Mailings--->Mail Mail Merge Wizard. There will be a guide on the right hand side of the document. Just follow it. All the letters that I need to prepare for the 101 workers is done in only a few minutes. So amazing! I've fallen in love with Microsoft Office. =D

I was also taught how to prepare the Payroll Change. Payroll change is a slip stating the change in the pay for the employee. I haven't really master the skills to calculate the Payroll Change but I believe I'll be able to master it soon. =D

I have also learnt how to apply for Work Permit online. It's so easy actually.

Finally, I'm finishing my first set of filing for 206 workers. Now waiting for the employees and the big bosses to signed all the essential documents then the filing will be completed.

My next task is to prepare the contracts for another batch of workers. With the help of the Mail Merge Tool, I believe it will not be a difficult task for me.

After working in the HR department for these two weeks, I have adapted to the working environment there. Although it's quite tiring to travel all the way to Boon Lay every morning, I feel that my time was never wasted working there. Everyday, I would go to work feeling very lethargic but as I commence with my work, gradually, my lethargicness will fade away. I enjoy working there so much that I never did count down when it's nearing my knock-off time. (When I worked at a video retail shop few years ago, I'd always count down cos I can't wait to knock-off. :p) Now, I'm considering whether I should request to stay for another month so that I can pick up more skills. But I also want to look for an admin job in a bank to build up my resume. I shall see if I'm able to find a bank admin job first ba. =D

Work, Play. Balance.

Saturday, 6th December
Worked until 11.30am on that day and went to Chinese Garden with ben. Had always wanted to go there. The greenery there is really beautiful. I love that place. So peaceful. Except for the rain. Then the wind kept blowing up my dress. :@ But had a really fun time exploring the place. Chose the right place to relax after a long week of work. Thanks, ben! Hehe! =D Had a wonderful day there! =D

Pictures of the view taken at the top of the 7-storey pagoda:
We came across an area which had a lot of stones with some Chinese words carved on it. Saw a stone with the word "永结同心"carved on it. Pulled ben over and insisted on taking a photo with the stone. It was drizzling then. We were lucky that someone passed by and was willing to help us take the photo. =D

Jurong Shipyard

Reported to Jurong Shipyard (JSPL) for my first day of work on Monday. Wanted to wake up at 5am but lazed until 5.30am. But I managed to reach there on time. =D For the first day, I was really very noob, I didn't know what to do and how to go about doing things. I re-do the filings for several times. And spent about half an hour or more striking out the one-sided printed papers so that it could be reused. Then I browsed through the pending files on my desk, under my desk, inside the cupboard which is near my desk and the cupboard used to contain the remaining files. What I'm trying to say is that the files which I need to sort out is practically everywhere. The files are in a mess. My desk is full of files everywhere. First day was a messy day for me. But got used to my job very soon but still not used to waking up so early. =D So not used to it that I missed my work on the second day, so got an MC on that day. =D I shall complete the filing latest by Friday. I can do it, jia you! =D

One part of my desk. I'm doing some filing. =D

This company I'm working in has a very interesting routine. In the morning, they will play those very old type of motivational songs. After that, they will sound the siren and announce a message about thesafety precations to take when going into the shipyard and the consequences of not abiding to the safety rules. After that, everybody will be already gathering at the parade square for the morning warm up exercise. The music they play is a very interesting one. Don't know how to describe. Hehe. =D When it's lunch time, they will play some music. 10 mins before the end of lunch hour, there will be a short siren. The routine feels so like in school. Furthermore, on Saturday, we had a fire drill. We gathered at the parade square when the extremly loud siren was sounded. Then, an ambulance and a small fire engine drove in, which led to the end of the drill.

SITEX Show 2008

Worked at the SITEX show from 28th to 30th Dec 2008 as a promoter at the LG LCD monitor booth. The location of our booth was not really good although it was near the entrance. For our booth, the sales for the first 3 days of the show wasn't up to the expectation of our supervisor. We have 2 booths, our supervisor was at the other booth with much better sales than ours. That was because the pathway near our booth was always blocked by a flock of Lenovo promoters gathering around there. Futhermore, they were so 'considerate' to put all their waste boxes beside the dustbin which was right in front of our booth. Obviously trying to show off how good their sales were. My in-charge was so pissed off by them that he kept criticising that their salesgirls looked disgusting in their mini skirts. They are really good looking though. Alright, enough of complaining. =D

For my 3 days there, I enjoyed myself. Almost all the customers there are so willing to allow us to promote our product to them. Only a handful of them would say that they are only taking a look. This was unlike being a salesperson in a shop, where one would spend more time staring blankly or chatting than attending to customers. Being a promoter will give one more satisfaction especially when the customer purchase your product. During my last day at the show, a customer whom I attended to on the previous day came back to buy a monitor. When he left, he commented that I had a beautiful smile. I was delighted. =D

For the last day, I left at 8pm as I need to report to Jurong Shipyard for my first day of work. When I left, the sales for our booth was already over 50 monitors. So most probably, the total sales for the 2 booths at the end of the day should be approximately 200 monitors.
Really thankful for the supervisor to ask me back for the last 3 days of the show. Had a fruitful experience. The most important thing that I had learnt is that to be a successful promoter, you don't have to be good looking, you just have to look neat. What matters most is the knowledge you have about your product, relating products and competitive products. =D

Work, work and more work! =D

Extremely busy with work for these few days. The SITEX show really drains a lot of energy but it's a very exciting job and a very good exposure. Will post more about the show during the weekend. Currently working as a temp admin staff in the HR dept of Jurong Shipyard. I think there are more than 100 of files that I need to sort out by 2 weeks. So I'll have to OT till 6plus everyday. Have to wake up at around 5am everyday so will be updating my blog during the weekend.
